Sparks Fly As Police Pursue Damaged Car At Belmont

BY IAN CROUCH

A 22-year-old Lambton man is due to face court later this month accused of leading police on a pursuit while drunk behind the wheel at Belmont.

Officers noticed a Toyota Camry with badly damaged wheels on the Pacific Highway at about 1.30am on Thursday - the car was being driven on the rim of one wheel, producing a shower of sparks.

However, the driver refused to stop when they tried to pull him over.

They followed the car up the highway to Belmont North where it was forced to stop due to the severe damage.

It's alleged the 22-year-old returned a mid-range blood alcohol reading and was driving without a licence.
