Lord Mayor Backs Matildas Home Base In Newcastle

BY IAN CROUCH

There's a push to have the Matildas national women's soccer side establish their home base in Newcastle.

Lord Mayor, Nuatali Nelmes believes the city would be the perfect home base for the side, saying the region is a natural breeding ground for women's soccer talent.

The Matildas had their biggest ever home crowd at McDonald Jones Stadium on Tuesday night, with more than 17,000 fans on hand to witness the 3-2 win over Brazil.

FFA boss, David Gallop won't be drawn on the idea but says they're looking at playing more national team matches in Newcastle.
