Police Investigate Stabbing At Bar Beach

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed at Bar Beach overnight.

Officers were called to a unit in Light Street at about 8.30pm on Monday where they found a 47-year-old man suffering stab wounds to his neck and arm - he was treated at the scene before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

Police set up a crime scene and are speaking with a number of people who they believe were inside the unit at the time.

Police Move To Shut Down Bikie Clubhouse At Islington

Heavily armed police have raided the Nomad Bikie Gang clubhouse at Islington.

The Herald reports officers stormed the Chinchen Street clubhouse at about 7.00pm on Monday after the Supreme Court declared it a restricted premises, giving police the power to enter the property at any time.

It also means anyone with a criminal conviction who meets there can be charged.

Police believe it will spell the end of the Nomads clubhouse.

It comes as a bike turf war seems to have reignited, with police saying a drive-by shooting at Gillieston Heights last week appears to be a payback attack.

UPDATE! Police Investigate Violent Street Robbery At Mayfield East

A man will front court today (Friday) accused of assaulting and robbing a 23-year-old man at Mayfield East.

Police say the victim was walking along Omara Street just before 12.30 yesterday morning when a man approached him and demanded his wallet.

The man allegedly punched him in the face and fled with his backpack.

Following inquiries, Police went to a home on Margaret Street Mayfield East yesterday afternoon and arrested an 18-year-old man.

He's been charged with robbery and resist officer in the execution of duty and refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court today.

Police are searching for the culprit involved in a violent street robbery at Mayfield East.

A 23-year-old man was walking along Omara Street just after midnight on Thursday when he was approached by three men.

One of them demanded his wallet but when he said he didn't have one it's alleged the man punched him in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.

The attacker then grabbed the man's backpack and ran off, joining the others down the road before all three ran into Ingall Street.

Police say the main culprit is described as being of African appearance in his late teens or early 20's.

The victim suffered only minor injuries and was able to make his way home where he called police.

Man Critical After One Punch Attack In Newcastle

A 45-year-old man remains in a critical but stable condition in the John Hunter Hospital after a one-punch attack in Newcastle.

Police say the victim became involved in an altercation with another man outside a the Queens Wharf Hotel on Wharf Road just before 6.30pm on Sunday.

He was allegedly punched once in the face, hitting his head on concrete and losing consciousness as he fell to the ground.

The man was taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he underwent surgery.

A 43-year-old man was arrested nearby and taken to Newcastle Police Station.

He was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 1 February 2018.

Chief Inspector Trevor Shields said police are investigating the possibility the man charged over the assault continued the attack even after the victim fell.

"We believe the assault did continue after the man had gone to the ground,. Emergency services were called and the man was conveyed to the John Hunter Hospital where he is in a serious condition."

Investigators continue with their inquiries into the incident and have urged anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Early Morning Smash And Grab At Fletcher Supermarket

Thieves have smashed their way into a supermarket in Newcastle's western suburbs overnight.

They forced open the roller door at the Coles supermarket on Minmi Road at Fletcher at about 1.30am on Wednesday and smashed open the self-serve check out area before escaping with cash.

Police have set up a crime scene and will view CCTV footage in a bid to identify the culprits.

New South Wales Police from are seeking public assistance in the search for a man wanted on several warrants.

NSW Police Force - Matthew Roberts

Matthew Roberts, 19, is wanted by the Newcastle Local Area Command for outstanding warrants relating to beak and enter offence.

He's described as 165cm tall, of thin build with black hair and of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance. Matthew is known to frequent the Tighes Hill and Newcastle West areas.

Anyone with information regarding his location is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or on their online reporting page.

Gun Found During Vehicle Stop In Newcastle West

A man is assisting police with their inquiries after a sawn-off rifle was allegedly found in his car in Newcastle West early Wednesday morning.

Officers pulled over a Ford Falcon for a Random Breath Test on Cooper Street at about 1.30am.

However, they became suspicious when the three people inside started moving around as they approached.

A search of the car uncovered the gun as well as a hunting knife and a pocket knife.

The driver, a 27-year-old man from Charlestown has been arrested - the other two occupants have been released pending further inquires.

New Lambton Pursuit Ends In Crash

A brief pursuit has ended in a crash at New Lambton.

Patrolling police noticed a Mitsubishi Lancer being driven erratically on St James Road just after 1.00am on Thursday and tried to pull the car over, but the driver failed to stop.

They began to pursue the car, but less than a minute later the driver lost control and crashed into a parked car in Royal Street.

The driver fled and investigations are continuing.

Mayfield Take Away Held Up At Knife Point

Police have released a description of man wanted over a brazen armed robbery at Mayfield.

The man entered the KFC fast food restaurant on Maitand Road when the business was closing at 11.47 on Tuesday night and threatened staff with a knife while demanding cash.

Acting Inspector Anita Cruz says the man fled with a small amount of money.

"He was Caucasian with a large build and light brown short hair and was wearing a black long sleeve jumper, grey tracksuit pants and a red bandana around his face," she said.

Employee Threatened During Merewether Armed Robbery

Police are searching for two men over an armed robbery on a Merewether service station last night.

The pair entered the service station on Watkins Street just after 9.30 - one of them was armed with a metal pole.

They threatened the 25-year-old service station attendant, demanding cash and cigarettes.

Police says the employee complied and the pair ran off towards The Junction.

One of the men has been described as Caucasian in appearance and aged in his mid twenties with a medium build and about 185cm tall.

He was wearing dark long pants with a dark jacket, a black beanie and had a red cloth covering his face and was armed with a metal bar.

The second man has been described as Caucasian in appearance and aged in his mid twenties with a medium build and about 175cm tall.

He was wearing grey long pants with a black hooded jumper and he had a black and grey cloth covering his face.

The employee was not injured during the incident and police are appealing for information as they search for the culprits.

Woman And Boy Killed In Pedestrian Accident At Cameron Park

The M1 Pacific Motorway has been reopened to traffic after a double fatality at Cameron Park.

A 28-year-old woman and an 8-year-old boy were killed after being hit by a truck in the southbound lanes near George Booth Drive just after 5.30pm on Sunday.

The pair were not related but were known to each other.

Police say a Toyota Tarago was parked on the shoulder of the motorway with its sliding door open.

A 57-year-old man who was driving the truck was treated for shock and taken to the John Hunter Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

The M1 was closed for more than five hours while investigations took place.

Investigators Probe Paraglider Death At Shepherds Hill

It's been revealed a paraglider who lost his life in a tragic crash at Shepherds Hill had only been in the air for 10 minutes when things went horribly wrong.

62-year-old Peter Mahony from Lake Macquarie was regarded as an experienced pilot who'd notched up many hours of flying time both here and overseas -but he lost control of the aircraft yesterday afternoon and crashed into the cliff face.

Witnesses and other paragliders rushed to his aid, pulling him 2 metres up the cliff, but efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Chief Inspector Gerard Lawson says they are still trying to determine how the accident happened.

"It's very early in our investigation at this stage and we don;t know exactly what's happened. We've got about a dozen witnesses we need to speak to before we can make a determination for the Coroner," he said.

Gun Found During Vehicle Stop At Wallsend

Two people are being questioned by police after a pistol was allegedly found in a car at Wallsend this morning.

Officers noticed a Nissan Navara leaving the car park of the Bunnings Warehouse just before 1.00am and pulled the vehicle over.

They became suspicious and searched the car, allegedly finding the gun under the front passenger seat.

The driver, a 26-year-old man from Singleton and a 21-year-old female passenger from Carrington were arrested.

It's expected they'll be changed with firearm offences.

Cabbie Robbed at Cooks Hill

Police are searching for a man who robbed a taxi driver at Cooks Hill overnight.

The cabbie was driving along Parkway Avenue near Union Street at about 7.30 when his passenger threatened him, demanding cash.

The bandit fled with the day's takings after a struggle with the driver.

He;s described as being in his mid 20's with a medium build, short light brown hair and a scruffy appearance.

He was wearing a blue cap and a green shirt and was last seen running west along Parkway Avenue.

The driver wasn't injured.

Traffic is back to normal after a nasty smash at Hamilton.

Three cars collided at the intersection of Beaumont and Everton Streets just before 7 o'clock.

One car flipped onto its roof.

Ambulance paramedics are treating a man at the scene - he's been taken to the John Hunter Hospital with a cut to his arm.

The occupants of the other vehicles weren't injured.

Car And Shed Destroyed In Sandgate Fire

Quick work by fire crews has stopped a shed fire spreading to a house at Sandgate this morning.

Newcastle Fire Command says they received several triple-oh calls just before 6.30am arriving to find a shed on a property in Wallsend Road well alight.

The shed and a car inside the shed were destroyed, but a house on the property was untouched.

Crews from Mayfield West and Lambton took about 30 minutes to extinguish the fire.

No-one was home at the time and police are trying to locate the owner of the car.

Three Men Face Court Over Cannabis Haul at Adamstown

Police have charged three men after they found a large amount of cannabis during a routine traffic stop at Adamstown.

Officers pulled over a car on Glebe Road at about 6.00pm on Monday and breath tested the driver, who returned a negative result.

However, a search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered 18 kilograms of cannabis.

Police arrested three men - one aged 33 and the others aged 22, and took them to Newcastle Police Station where they were charged with possess prohibited drug (deemed supply) and were refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court today.

Drugs, Cash And Weapons Seized During Raid On Broadmeadow Home

A woman is due to face court today after police found drugs, cash and weapons during a raid on a Broadmeadow home.

Officers searched the Young Road property yesterday afternoon and allegedly uncovered more than $15,500 in cash, a small amount of the drug Ice, a taser and tools believed to be stolen.

The 44-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Newcastle City Police Station where she was charged with supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), possess prohibited drug, goods in custody (x 2), possess prohibited weapon and deal with property proceeds of crime.

She was refused bail and will appear in Newcastle Local Court today (Tuesday 24 October 2017).
