Dozens of firefighters have taken several hours to extinguish a fire at a Carrington bulk storage facility.
Crews were called to Aurizon Port Services in Bourke Street just before 9.30am on Monday where numerous 10 X 10 metre piles of copper and lead concentrate were on fire inside a 100 metre long building on the site.
13 fire trucks were called to the incident, with crews using a light fog spray of water to slowly cool the piles.
A front-end loader was also deployed to separate unburned material to give crews better access to the burning piles.
Newcastle Fire Command says the incident wrapped up just before 4.30pm, with the site handed back to the operator.
No-one was injured and there was no damage to the building.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
