 BY IAN CROUCH

The Royal Australian Airforce will stage a major air show in the Hunter later this year.

Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes and Air Commodore Micka Grey will make the announcement on Friday at Fort Scratchley.

The two-day event will comprise and aerial display over Newcastle and an open day at the Williamtown base in mid-November.

Wlliamtown last hosted an air show in September 2010, with more than 50,000 people turning out for the event.

It was also the final appearance of the legendary F-111 fighter.
