A family of six and their pet dog have been left homeless after fire tore through their Cameron Park home last night.
Firefighters from Holmesville and Minmi arrived at the two storey brick and tile home in McKendry Drive just after 6.30pm to find large volumes of smoke issuing from the property.
They were joined by 4 other stations and an RFS unit, taking around an hour to bring the blaze under control.
Newcastle Fire Command says 6 people and a dog safely evacuated the home without injury.
It's believed an electrical fault in the garage caused the fire.
