Police have seized a car following a high speed pursuit at Nelson Bay.
Officers noticed a gold coloured Honda CRV suspected of being involved in a series of thefts on Church Street at 11.15pm on Tuesday.
They attempted to stop the car but it took off down Stockton Street, reaching speeds in excess of 100 kilometres per hour in a 50kph zone.
The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons and the car was found dumped 30 minutes later in Fishemans Bay Road.
A search of the area by a police dog was unsuccessful.
Police say several items found in the car have been taken for forensic examination.
