At around 3:00pm on Thursday Police arrested escaped prisoner James Tozer within a Shopping Centre on Northcott Drive at Kotara.
A search was underway for 35-year-old Tozer after he escaped whilst under guard of Corrective Services NSW at John Hunter Hospital.
He has been taken to Newcastle Police Station and is now assisting investigators with their inquiries.
A large-scale search involving local police, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, the Dog Unit and PolAir, was launched after he was seen running on Lookout Road near Bushlands Close, New Lambton.
