West Maitland Resident Left Fearful and Frustrated by Dangerous Drivers

BY CATHERINE ALLEN

In the past four weeks, almost 50 bookings have been made by police for dangerous driving in the West Maitland and Rutherford area and locals are concerned.

Councillor Henry Meskauskas says the issue has reached crisis point and has seen an increase in complaints made by residents about incidents of reckless and anti-social driving.

"Everyday people speak to me about how do we slow down the traffic in the street because it's getting dangerous," Councillor Meskauskas says.

"It's becoming a major problem and we need to do something before someone gets killed".

Councillor Meskauskas says he's been in contact with the police and is working with them in an attempt to stop the dangerous drivers in the area.

"We are working together in the hope that we can come up with a way to slow these people down and, if they keep continuing, to take them off the roads".

Councillor Meskauskas is urging residents to continue in their vigilance and report all instances to the police.

If your area is affected by dangerous drivers you can contact Maitland Police Station on 49340200.
