Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison Calls For One Dollar Deal

BY ELISE AKSNES

After a NSW Government decision to hand a vacant Lands Office to Moree Plains Shire Council on behalf of that community for just $1.00, Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison wants the same generosity extended to her electorate.

The Maitland Regional Museum Committee has expressed interest in the Maitland Lands Office building and has plans to revive it to serve the local community.

"If the Berejiklian-Barilaro Government can give the Moree Crown Lands Building to that community for one dollar then it can offer the same deal to Maitland and I'll gladly hand over the gold coin donation," said Jenny Aitchison.

Property NSW has quoted the building to cost $160,000 per year, which the MP deems "unfair" as she believes Maitland deserves to acquire the building by the same one dollar deal.

"The Maitland Lands Office is sitting vacant and the Maitland Regional Museum committee has a plan that can revitalise the building. It would be the worst case of double standards to deny the Maitland community the opportunity to use this historic building for a meaningful purpose," said MP Aitchison.

Finance, Services and Property Minister Victor Dominello has said Property NSW has an unsolicited proposal from the museum for the Lands Office.

"An an active supporter of the Maitland Regional Museum proposal I now look forward to seeing Minister Dominello in Maitland with contract in hand to accept my gold coin on behalf ot the community and do the deal," said MP Jenny Aitchison.
