With just over a week out from the Newcastle 500, organisers are encouraging fans to begin planning their journey to and from the event now.
More than 150,000 people are expected to attend the three-day racing event through Newcastle from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 November.
Hundreds of extra train and bus services have been added accommodate for the thousands of spectators travelling through Newcastle.
Melissa Cornetto from the Transport Management Centre says heavy delays can be expected next weekend but NSW Transport is trying to minimise the disruptions.
"We're expecting heavy traffic throughout Newcastle through the duration of the event so the advice is to just allow plenty of extra travel time if you are driving through Newcastle as it takes place," Ms Cornetto said.
Tickets to the event cover travel to and from Newcastle on trains, event shuttle buses, Sydney and Newcastle buses and ferries.
"If you're attending the event make sure you take advantage of public transport," Ms Cornetto said.
The closest train station to the race is the Newcastle Interchange where extra trains will be running to get commuters to and from the action quickly.
Park & Ride services will be available at the McDonald Jones Stadium and the Stockton Ferry Wharf where a shuttle bus will take people to Honeysuckle Drive.
Heavy traffic and major road closures should be expected, including closures in Newcastle East, Newcastle and Stockton.
