An investigation has been launched into a serious crash at Bishops Bridge last night, which saw a woman ejected through the windscreen.
Just before 9 o'clock, a passing motorist found the 36-year-old woman lying next to her red Ford Falcon, which had crashed into a pole on Old Maitland Road.
The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene and rushed to the John Hunter Hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.
The crash left Old Maitland Road closed for over 8 hours, while initial inquiries indicate another vehicle may have been involved in the crash.
Police are appealing for anyone driving in the area at the time to come forward, while any witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
