Erosion Election Pledge: Crackanthorp

BY TARA LOUIS

If the state government won't fix the Stockton Beach erosion problem, then a future Labor government will - that's the promise from Newcastle MP Tim Crackanthorp.

Labor has promised to commit $270 000 to kick-start Newcastle Council's Coastal Management Program if elected next March.

Tim Crackanthorp is accusing the Berejiklian Government of dragging its feet on the issue, despite funding being available to address coastal erosion.

"We are saying here's some money to get on with the coastal management plan and we are calling on the government to match it.

"There's an appalling slowness with which this government has responded to this crisis at Stockton and it's totally unacceptable," says Mr Crackanthorp.

However, it's understood the council has now lodged a coastal plan for Stockton with the government for consideration and it's likely a funding announcement will be made in the near future.
