Fight For RMS Jobs in the Hunter

BY NAKITA JAGER

Wallsend MP Sonia Hornery is calling on Minister for Roads, Melinda Pavey, to overturn a decision to send 300 jobs in the RMS I.T. service department to overseas employees.

The aim of the plan is to increase offshore employment in the next seven years of the contract.

However, Ms Hornery disagrees with the decision and believes giving the jobs away is a concern for employees throughout the nation.

"Not only is this government obsessed with privatising our public assets, they are now giving away our jobs," Ms Hornery explained.

The plan, as outlined by Roads Minister, Melinda Pavey requires a minimum 20 per cent of jobs be sent offshore within its first year.

Ms Hornery said the local workers will lose their job to overseas workers earning as little as a few dollars per hour.

"This is a betrayal of skilled local workers and the requirement for offshoring jobs must be ditched immediately," Ms Hornery said.

"Today I will move a Notice of Motion calling on the Minister to put a stop to any offshoring of jobs and ensure local workers are kept."
