Driver Charged Over April Double Fatality

Police have now charged the driver of a hatchback over a terrible crash at Salamander Bay which saw two men killed.

At 1am on the morning of Friday, April 13, a Mazda 3 veered off the road and collided with a tree at the intersection of George and Soldiers Point Roads.

Two male passengers, aged 34 and 29, both died, while the man driving and a third occupant sustained minor injuries.

The driver's been accused of five offences, including aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death, and has faced Newcastle Local Court today.

He'll next appear on October 17.
