A former health and safety campaigner for abattoir workers and entertainer has been named as a Freeman of the City of Newcastle.
Fletcher's Phil Mahoney has been recognised for his work as a Commonwealth Meat Inspector, improving the response to zoonotic diseases.
He's also being celebrated in the entertainment industry, as a performer and children's show host.
Since then, Mr Mahoney's been involved in extensive charity work for Camp Quality, the Australian Heart Foundation, No Kids Hungry Australia, Black Dog Institute, Melanoma Institute, and the Foster Carers Association.
He says it's a privilege to receive the award.
