Police officer stabbed in the face in Anna Bay arrest

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer at Anna Bay on Friday morning.

About 8.25am, police were called to a property on Morna Point Road, following a concern for welfare report.

On arrival, officers located a man and woman inside the property.

After making further inquiries at the scene, a male constable was allegedly stabbed by the man with a narrow metal instrument.

The 42-year-old man was arrested and taken to the Mater Hospital for assessment.

The 31-year-old constable was taken to the John Hunter Hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening facial injuries.

Upon his release from hospital, the 42-year-old man was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was charged with seven offences regarding assault and drug possession.

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Saturday.

Couple charged over Maitland puppy theft

A man and a woman have been charged after a puppy and guitars were allegedly stolen during a break and enter at Maitland this week.

About 2:30pm on Thursday, police attended a reserve on Sempill Street as part of an investigation into an alleged break and enter.

Police located a puppy locked in a tent, believed to have been stolen during a break and enter at a home also on Sempill Street.

A short time later, a 44-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man arrived at the reserve. 

The pair was arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station, where they were charged over the break and enter.

They were both refused bail to appear before Maitland Local Court on Friday.

The puppy was uninjured and has since returned home.


Trains delayed after car crosses tracks at Waratah

Police have had to remove a car from the tracks east of Waratah Station in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It's understood a man accidentally drove through the chain fence and onto the rail corridor.

Police attended the scene at 1:15am.

Train services had to be stopped until around 4am, when the car was towed from the tracks.

Man charged over Bar Beach break-ins

A man has been charged over two alleged attempted break and enter incidents at Bar Beach on Thursday night. 

About 9pm on Thursday 13 July, police were called to Memorial Drive, where they were told that a man allegedly attempted to gain entry to the premises before fleeing.

It is also believed that the man gained access to a parked vehicle before allegedly stealing keys and various cards. 

A short time later, officers attempted to stop a man at a property on the same road. 

The man allegedly ran from police, but was arrested after a short struggle. 

The Queanbeyan man, aged 20, was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged over the attempted break and enters, larceny, and possession housebreaking implements and a knife in a public place. 

He appeared before Newcastle Local Court on Friday, where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Thursday 27 July 2023.

Concerns missing South Coast teen could be in Newcastle

Police are appealing to the public to help locate a teenager missing from Bomaderry on the South Coast, with concern he could be in the Newcastle area.

Kye Marcal was last was last seen leaving a home on the Princes Highway at Bomaderry about 1am on Wednesday 5 July 2023.

When the 16-year-old failed to return and could not be contacted, police were notified and commenced inquiries into his whereabouts.

Police and family hold concerns for his welfare due to his young age.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 170cm to 180cm tall, of a medium build, with brown hair in a mullet style, and blue eyes.

He was last seen wearing a black Nike hat, hooded jumper and tracksuit pants.

Kye is known to frequent the Bomaderry, Newcastle, Redfern, Sydney CBD and Shoalhaven areas.

Police investigating after Tea Gardens, Raymond Terrace convoy pursuit

Police have attempted to stop several vehicles, including a car believed to be stolen, at Tea Gardens early Saturday morning.

Just before 2am, officers attempted to stop a white BMW X5 station wagon, a white Mazda 3 sedan, and a white Nissan Navara utility travelling in convoy along Myall Road, as the occupants of all the vehicles were wearing balaclavas.

Checks on the BMW revealed it was reported stolen from a South West Rocks address on Friday.

The vehicles failed to stop, but officers later sighted the vehicles travelling together on the Pacific Highway at Raymond Terrace, around 2:30am. 

A pursuit was initiated, but was terminated due to safety reasons.  

Police are investigating the incident.

Man dies in Anna Bay crash

A man has died after a crash at Anna Bay on Friday afternoon.

About 3.20pm, emergency services were called to Robert Connell Close near Frost Road after reports a car had struck a telegraph pole.

The driver and sole occupant of a Mitsubishi was treated by paramedics, but died at the scene.

He is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged 29.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
