Bushfire Threatens Homes At Salamander Bay

 BY IAN CROUCH

Rural Fire Service crews are monitoring a fire which has burnt out almost 50 hectares of bush at Salamander Bay.

The fire broke out near Mariner Crescent just before midday on Tuesday and went to Watch and Act alert level as easterly winds gusting at more than 20 km/hr fanned the flames.

Homes adjacent to the Mambo Wetlands came under threat but crews managed to stop the spread with the help of a water bombing helicopter.

The fire is now listed at Advice level and crews will continue blacking out hot spots on Wednesday.
