The driver behind the wheel of a car which crashed at New Lambton Heights last year claiming the life of a 9-year-old girl has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving occasioning death.
The girl was a back seat passenger in a Holden Statesman which lost control and hit a power pole on McCaffrey Drive on August 13.
A 26-year-old man faced Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday where he also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and driving with an illicit drug in his system.
At the time of the crash he told police he was distracted while talking to his partner who was also seriously injured in the collision.
He was granted continuing bail before facing Newcastle District Court on May 21 for a sentence date.
