Ausgrid has launched a social media campaign to help put a stop to abuse being experienced by its maintenance staff across the state including Newcastle.
The campaign features Ausgrid staff asking the public for support during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a short film explaining why essential maintenance and repairs to poles and wires need to continue.
Maintenance crews have been blocked from doing their work and verbally abused or threatened with spitting and coughing.
Fairfax reports in one case in Newcastle, Ausgrid District Operator, Gavin Johns and his repair crew were threatened by a man wielding a gun.
