Singleton Hospital's much-needed new building is complete and it's hoped local residents will see improved access to healthcare.
The $7 million dollar upgrade has replaced outdated demountable buildings and a brick cottage which previously required patients to leave the hospital building for some services.
The upgraded building features a range of new and refurbished areas, including community health, specialist clinics and pathology and imaging services, as well as better accessibility across the hospital. A second elevator has also been installed, providing backup for the original lift which serviced the entire building.
A new renal dialysis unit is an important addition to the hospital, featuring two additional dialysis chairs and an isolation room to meet current and future demand.
Member for Upper Hunter, Michael Johnsen, says the upgrade is about ensuring that people get “the best possible quality healthcare as close to home as possible.”
Work will continue until mid-2018 to replace the former community health building with a new car park.
