New Intercity Trains Won't Be Fitted With Reversible Seats

BY IAN CROUCH

First, it was revealed the new inter city trains on order from South Korea won't fit through the tunnels in the Blue Mountains, now it's emerged they won't be fitted with reversible seats.

Despite being popular with commuters, transport officials decided against ordering them in the new trains after it was found they are more complex, heavier and need more maintenance than fixed seats - and also pose a greater fire risk.

It means about half the passengers will have to travel backwards on the trip between Newcastle and Sydney.
