Lake Macquarie High School hopes to improve STEM education, after receiving a $50,000 grant from the federal government.
The Digital Literacy School Grants Program is highly competitive, with only sixty schools across the country benefiting.
Lake Macquarie High will put the funds towards their Emerging Technology and STEM Equity project, which aims to improve the digital technology skills of female Indigenous students from low socio-economic areas.
Principal Brendan Maher said the project is an amazing way of keeping students engaged with learning.
"We're looking at areas of cultural significance in Lake Macquarie," he said, "through using virtual-reality technology, 3D video cameras and drones, we're going to look at mapping and we'll give students the opportunity to add their own knowledge to it."
Principal Maher said the program links science and culture.
"The other side of it is our STEM Sister's program, which gets Indigenous girls involved in STEM.
"It gives them links to Indigenous culture while also building their skill set."
