A 45-year-old woman has been charged with stabbing her former partner during a domestic incident at Mayfield.
Police were called to Highfield Street at about 9.30pm on Tuesday after an argument developed into a physical altercation.
The woman's accused of stabbing a 36-year-old man in the abdomen with a kitchen knife - he was taken to hospital with a non life-threatening injury and is in a stable condition.
The woman has been charged with reckless wounding and has been granted conditional bail to face Newcastle Local Court at a later date.
