Man To Face Court Over Fatal Crash At Fennell Bay

A man allegedly at the wheel of a stolen car involved in a fatal crash with a motorcyclist at Fennell Bay will front court again today.

Police say the 33-year-old from Wangi Wangi was driving a Mitsubishi Triton which ran a red light at the corner of Macquarie Road and Main Road at about 10pm on Thursday 1 December, and hit a motorcyclist.

Despite the best efforts of police and paramedics, the 49-year-old man from Mayville died at the scene.

The driver of the ute allegedly ran from the scene before stealing another vehicle, but was arrested a short time later.

He was taken to the John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing and treatment of minor injuries and later released and taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with none offences including dangerous and negligent driving occasioning death, drive manner dangerous, fail to stop and assist,disqualified driving, two counts of take and drive conveyance, proceed through red light and enter dwelling with intent..

He faced Newcastle Local Court on Saturday where he was refused bail to face Toronto Local Court today (Monday 5 December, 2022).
