A man is recovering in hospital after a nasty crash at Bellbird overnight.
Police say the man in his thirties was attempting a right hand turn from Wollombi Road into Hetton Street at about 10.50pm on Sunday when his Toyota Hilux slammed into a power pole.
Emergency services arrived to find the man lying on the road and drifting in and out of consciousness.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called but wasn't needed, with the man taken by road ambulance to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Investigations into the crash continue.
