Extra public transport services for Saturday night's highly anticipated A-League Grand Final at McDonald Jones Stadium have today been announced by the state government.
The stadium will be at capacity, with 30,000 fans to descend on Broadmeadow, and we're being advised to leave home early to avoid the rush.
Pre-booked stadium parking has already sold out, while special event clearways will be in place between 12pm and midnight on both sides of Turton Road between Griffiths Road and Lambton Road.
Trains:
From early afternoon, extra Hunter Line services will run to Broadmeadow Station from Telarah, and from Gosford on the Central Coast and Newcastle Lines.
There are no additional trains running between Sydney's Central Station and Newcastle.
Buses:
Three extra services will run from Swansea and Queens Wharf (via Mayfield) while an extra two will run from Glendale.
Park and ride shuttles will operate from late afternoon so fans can leave their cars at Newcastle's Customs House, Wallsend's Bunn Street or Westfield Kotara.
They'll complete return journeys every 10 minutes following the final whistle.
Interstate visitors are also being catered to, with Port Stephens Coaches running from Williamtown Airport to the Newcastle Transport Interchange at Wickham.
Ferry:
Additional ferries are scheduled, with the last service to leave Queens Wharf at 1am on Sunday, catering to revellers kicking-on in town post-match.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter, Scot MacDonald said he's "confident people will be able to get to the game and enjoy a memorable experience."
