Maitland Job Cuts Go To State Parliament

BY NAKITA JAGER

Member for Maitland, Jenny Aitchison has introduced a Notice of Motion into the NSW Parliament calling on the government to stop axing public sector jobs from the Maitland area.

The motion comes after 35 jobs have been cut from the Maitland Revenue Office NSW.

Ms Aitchison protested alongside Revenue NSW workers and members from the Public Service Association out the front of Maitland Office last Wednesday against the job losses.

During the past 3 years, over 200 cuts have been taken from the public sector, including losses from Crown Land and Family and Community Services.

Aitchison says these cuts will have a huge economic impact upon the community and be very difficult for traders in the area.

"Our central business district in Maitland will have a real problem adjusting to this loss of jobs," she said.

"The government is continuing to rip the heart out of Maitland... I will continue to fight these unfair cuts.

"It's going to be very difficult for traders and have a huge economic impact." Aitchison finished.
