Police Lay Charges Over Newcastle Crime Spree

A man is due to front court today over a series of break-ins around Newcastle over the past week.

It's alleged the 43-year-old broke into a coffee shop on Wharf Road and a shop on Hunter Street last Monday - he's also wanted over a theft from a Wallsend supermarket last Saturday and an aggravated break-in of a New Lambton.supermarket on Monday.

The man was arrested at Cardiff yesterday afternoon.

A search of the man and his car allegedly located housebreaking implements and a knife.
He was taken to Waratah police station and charged with several offences including:
- Break, enter and steal;
- Break and enter with intent (steal);
- Larceny;
- Aggravated break, enter and steal in company;
- Carry cutting weapon on apprehension; and
- Possess housebreaking implements.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today.
