Forensic investigators are combing through the rubble of a house fire at Argenton.
About 25 Firefighters from Wallsend, West Wallsend, Minmi, Cardiff and Teralba were called to the unoccupied weatherboard and tile home on Piper Street just before 12.30am on Monday to find the house well alight.
Newcastle Fire Command says the heat from the fire was so intense, it scorched the wall of a neighbouring home.
It's took crews about about an hour to douse the flames, but not before the single storey cottage was destroyed.
Police say the home was in the process of being renovated and they are treating the fire as suspicious.
