BY IAN CROUCH

Charges have been laid over a police pursuit from the Hunter to the Central Coast.

Police say a Nissan Navara was stolen from a Maitland business yesterday afternoon before it crashed into another car on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Tuggerah Lakes.

Officers from the Highway Patrol gave chase but the pursuit was called off at Berowra while the Polair helicopter kept tracking the vehicle.

It got stuck in traffic, with police swooping on the car to arrest the 27-year-old driver.

He was assessed at Hornsby Hospital before being taken to Hornsby Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit, larceny (stolen car keys), take and drive conveyance, negligent driving, not exchange particulars, suspended driver and driving under the influence.

He's been refused bail and will appear in Hornsby Local Court today (Wednesday 16 May 2018).
