Hunter Paramedic Death Prompts Calls For More Support Services

BY IAN CROUCH

The NSW Ambulance service is in the spotlight after the death of a Hunter paramedic who took his own life.

The Herald reports the man in his 50's was suffering from work-related stress.

His death comes just six months after a parliamentary inquiry found the Ambulance service had high rates of bullying but only one per cent of complaints were referred to the organisation's professional standards unit.

The apparent suicide is the 3rd by a Hunter paramedic in the past decade.

It's prompted calls for more support for paramedics in rural and regional areas.

If you need help, you can call Lifeline at any time on 13 11 14.
