Magistrate carjacked in Newcastle street

BY DAKOTA TAIT

Police are investigating after a magistrate was carjacked in Newcastle early Monday morning.

Robert Stone, a local court magistrate in Newcastle and Cessnock, was driving along Cowper Street just before 6am on Monday, when two cars approached his vehicle from behind.

One car overtook Mr Stone's car and slowed down - the other kept on directly behind him.

Both of the cars are believed to be stolen.

After stopping, Mr Stone was ordered out of his car, which was driven off by the thieves.

It's not believed the attack was targeted, and Mr Stone was not physically injured, but is understood to be shaken by the incident.
