UPDATE: Fiery Crash at Pokolbin Claims the Life of Man in his 70's

Investigations are continuing into a single vehicle crash at Pokolbin which claimed the life of a man in his 70's.

Police say a Honda CRV left McDonalds Road just after 10am on Thursday morning and slammed into a tree.

The man, who was behind the wheel, died at the scene while a female front seat passenger was taken to the John Hunter Hospital with suspected fractures, where she remains in a stable condition.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.

EARLER:

Two people have been flown to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, following a single vehicle crash at Pokolbin. 

Five ambulance crews were called to the scene on McDonald's roads just after 10.00am on Thursday morning, to reports a car was on fire. 

Two patients have been flown to hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter with critical injuries.

A crime scene has been established.
