Fire has torn through the former Kurri Kurri Workers Club overnight.
Seven fire trucks were called to the Lang Street club just after 8.00pm on Wednesday to find a large volume of smoke issuing from the building.
Crews encountered problems with accessing the boarded up building and there were initial concerns a squatter may be inside, but this was not the case.
Firefighters were also worried the structure could collapse.
It's taken more than 2 hours to completely extinguish and mop up the fire, which has left the building severely damaged.
Police have set up a crime scene, with detectives due on site early Thursday morning.
The club closed in 2017 after being placed in administration.
It comes more than a week after fire destroyed the former Belmont Sporties Club.
