John Barilaro Calls for Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen's Immediate Resignation Over Fresh Allegations

BY ISABEL EVERETT

Upper Hunter MP, Michael Johnsen is accused of offering a woman $1 thousand dollars to travel to State Parliament for sex.

The ABC has revealed a series of lude text messages reportedly sent to the sex worker by the MP, including during question time.

Mr Johnsen is denying allegations he sexually assaulted the woman at a look out in the Blue Mountains in 2019.

He's been suspended from the Nationals Party.

Nationals leader, John Barilaro says he's now told Mr Johnsen his position as a member of parliament is untenable and is calling for his resignation.

"There is currently a police investigation underway which we must let proceed without prejudice."

"In light of this investigation, last week Michael Johnsen was removed from the Nationals and Coalition Party Rooms and suspended from the National Party."

"Following reports this morning I contacted Mr Johnsen to express the view that his position as a Member of Parliament is untenable."

"This is disgusting behaviour and will never be acceptable, nor should it be, and I’m calling for Mr Johnsen to resign from Parliament immediately."

"It is now up to Mr Johnsen to reconsider his position as an independent Member of Parliament."
