Man Facing Court Over Alleged Violent Brawl at Rugby Match in Dora Creek

A man has been charged following an alleged brawl in Lake Macquarie earlier this month.

Just before 5pm on Saturday September 19, police were called to Dora Creek Workers Club Oval, where Dora Creek beat West Wallsend 36-16 in their Newcastle Hunter Community Rugby League A-grade match.

Dozens of people, including spectators and players became involved in the altercation, with the West Wallsend team later disqualified from participating in the remainder of the season. 

It was revealed one of the West Wallsend players involved was on parole at the time. 

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District attended, however, those involved had dispersed.

Following extensive inquiries, a 22-year-old man attended Newcastle Police Station about 8.30am on Monday, where he was arrested.

He has since been charged with affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

 He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Monday afternoon.
