Residents have survived a fire which engulfed a home at Gillieston Heights on Tuesday night.
Just before 5pm Fire and Rescue crews from across the Hunter arrived at the scene on Holland Street, to find a single storey home well alight, with large volumes of smoke issuing from the roof.
Firefighters worked to control the fire whilst protecting the fire from spreading to neighboring properties.
More than twenty fire fighters from Fire and Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service worked for over an hour to extinguish the blaze.
While the home was
significantly damaged firefighters managed to prevent the blaze from spreading
to surrounding homes.
One person was treated on scene by NSW Ambulance for smoke inhalation.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
