Dangerous Spikes Found On Lake Macquarie Walking Track

BY IAN CROUCH

A man has made a shocking discovery during his afternoon run at Bolton Point.

The man's foot brushed a pile of leaves on Alexander's Trail in the State Conservation Park on Monday afternoon revealing several homemade booby traps made of wine corks pierced with nails.

The man found two more piles of  leaves with the spike-ladden corks a little further down the track.

They are similar to historic weapons known as caltrops.

Lake Macquarie police have launched an investigation into the discovery and are urging anyone who may have information or who may have noticed suspicious activity in the area to contact Toronto Police on (02) 4088 1099 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
