Beresfield Pool Patronage Turnaround Prompts Hours Extension

BY IAN CROUCH

Newcastle Council looks set to extend the opening hours of Beresfield Pool.

The pool was faced with closure in 2012 due to poor patronage and limited opening hours, but moves to make it cheaper for families has seen a massive turnaround, with 44,000 people using the facility, double the previous year.

Councillor Jason Dunn says it's now time to bring Beresfield Pool in line with other facilities - extending opening hours until 6pm and 7pm during the peak summer months.

"..particularly with daylight saving. I mean, kicking kids out of the pool at 3pm on a weekend really isn't satisfactory. So, this motion will extend those hours and also extend the hours slightimg through the whole season by about and hour a day," he said.
