Newcastle East Public School is about to get a major upgrade, with work to start next year.
Education Minister, Rob Stoke is announcing the work is about to go to tender.
The upgrade involves the construction of four new classrooms, a new covered outdoor learning area, replacing the existing roof of the heritage building and removing two demountable classrooms to provide more outdoor play space.
The emphasis of the upgrade will be on providing state-of-the-art facilities while preserving the school's original heritage buildings.
The work is due for completion in 2021.
