Cessnock has officially announced the opening of their new Waste Management Centre as of yesterday. It will now provide the local community with a facility which allows them to recycle and minimize their impact on the environment.
Cessnock Mayor, Bob Pynsent says the construction of the new centre allows residents to decipher what they wish to recycle. Once your vehicle is weighed the remainder of your waste will go into landfill.
Mayor Pynsent says he encourages the community to recycle as much as possible to not only minimize the negative impacts landfill has on the environment, yet residents should be aware that just one tonne of waste can cost the council around $140 to dispose of.
Australia is ranked one of the highest producers of waste in the world and this new center aims to take a step toward to a much better future. The new waste disposal process allows residents to no longer use the old tip face and ensues future generations to have critical infrastructure to divert material from landfill.
Additionally, the NSW Government funded Cessnock City Council with a $200, 000 grant to help facilitate a Community Recycling Centre which promotes the Government's 'Waste Less, Recycle More' scheme. The centre now allows residents to successfully dispose of problem wastes such as oils, paints and gas bottles.
Cessnock's new Waste Management facility hopes to provide the community with the opportunity to be environmentally friendly by increasing a better recovery of resources.
