A Wallsend man accused of raping a young woman in a laneway at Hamilton has been refused bail in Newcastle Local Court.
45-year-old Dean Thomas Mullholland is charged with sexual interscourse without consent after he allegedly followed the 19-year-old into the laneway off Cleary Street early Sunday morning.
In refusing bail, Magistrate Robert Stone described the behaviour of the accused as predatory, saying much of the alleged incident was captured on CCTV and his car was seen in the area at the time.
The case returns to court on Wednesday.
