Former Newcastle local area commander and Northern Region police chief Lee Shearer has been appointed to the role of Central Coast Coordinator General.
The former top cop has a prominent history with Newcastle as the first female officer to be appointed to head the Newcastle local area command.
In 2010, after six years in the job, Ms Shearer retired from the police force as the Hunter's most senior officer, due to ongoing health problems.
The new positions will give the Coordinator General the responsibility of delivering the Central Coast Regional Plan, designed to create jobs, improve infrastructure and fast track housing supply.
Ms Shearer said her many years of exposure to the community in the police force has set her up for the role.
"The success to policing is about consulting and listening to communities and identifying issues and dealing with problems within communities," Ms Shearer said.
Of the new job, Ms Shearer said it's time to get on with the job of delivering for the people.
"I'll be working with key stakeholders across the Central Coast to identify what their needs are and start delivering.
"When you consult and coordinate widely with the people who are affected by changes that may be made, I think that always provides the best platform for roles of this type. It is a coordinator role with the key being consultation," Ms Shearer said.
