More arrests over Williamtown fast food restaurant robbery

BY JESSICA ROUSE

Strike Force Shirley has successfully arrested two men over an armed robbery of a fast food restaurant earlier this year.

The strike force was established by detectives from the State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad with Port Stephens and Central Hunter police, to investigate a series of armed robberies in the area.

Just after 1:30 on Saturday afternoon, officers attended a home in Raymond Terrace on Cook Street where they found a 21-year-old man hiding under a bed.

Further inquiries then lead Lake Macquarie officers to Heatherbrae, where they found a 32 year old man at a motel on the Pacific Highway.

Both men were arrested, with the 21 year old charged with robbery whilst armed with dangerous weapon, and possess prohibited drug and the 32-year-old charged with robbery whilst armed with a dangerous weapon.

Both men were refused bail at Newcastle Local Court yesterday, and will reappear today.

These aren't the first arrests made in relation to the armed robbery - two men aged 18 and 30 have previously been charged by strike force detectives.
