Cessnock City Council is inviting local community organisations to apply for the 2017 Community Cultural Development Dollar for Dollar Grants Program.

The annual program offers financial assistance to community groups in the Cessnock area, and previous successful applicants have included the Wollombi Sculpture in the Vineyards and Cessnock Woodturners Incorporated.

Cessnock City Council Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent says this is a wonderful opportunity for vital community groups to secure that extra support they need.

“The annual program has supported some really exciting initiatives in the past year”

The Cultural Grant Program allocates an average of $25, 000 spread across eight to ten projects throughout the year. With grants provided on a dollar for dollar basis, the movement aims to financially assist a number of cultural and arts groups in the local area.

Acting Community and Cultural Engagement Manager, Natalie Draige says the council is encouraging any group that has an interest in delivering cultural programs to apply before Monday the 8th of May.

“The focus is very much around cultural arts programs. Things like how we can celebrate our heritage and culture, fostering community spirit, supporting diversity and inclusion in our community, create opportunities to celebrate together. There is also a focus on how we can improve the usage of our cultural facilities.”

Groups can request up to 50 per cent of the cost for their project provided they come up with a plan to source the remaining costs to make their project viable. Grants can be given to a wide range of projects and facilities in Cessnock, Kurri Kurri, Wollombi, Greta, Branxton and Mulbring.

Cessnock City Council welcome any inquiries, project discussion or those wanting assistance with the application process from community organisations.
