Woman Dies In Hospital After Crash At Martindale

A report is being prepared for the Coroner after a fatal crash at Martindale in the Upper Hunter.

Emergency services were called to reports of a head-on crash involving a car and a B-Double truck on Martindale Road at about 3.30pm on Tuesday.

The driver, an 81-year-old man and his 82-year-old female passenger were trapped for some time before being freed.

The man was airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition by the region's Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

The woman was taken by road ambulance to Denman Hospital where she later died.

The truck driver, a 43-year-old man, was not injured. 

Police established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Two People Killed In Horror Smash At Muswellbrook

Investigations are continuing into a horrific crash at Muswellbrook which claimed the lives of two people.

Emergency services were called to Denman Road at about 5.30 on Saturday afternoon following reports of a head-on crash involving two cars.

A woman in her 70's who was driving one of the cars died at the scene along with a male passenger believed to be in his 20's in the second car.

Three other people, a man and two women in their 20's were treated at the scene.

The man and one of the women were airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital with serious head and pelvic injuries.

The other woman was taken by ambulance to the John Hunter.

A report is being prepared for the Coroner.

UPDATE! Emergency Services Called To Serious Crash At Maitland: Teenager Arrested

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested following a serious crash at Maitland.

Emergency services were called to The Long Bridge on High Street at about 6.15am on Tuesday where a white Toyota Hilux Utility and a motor scooter collided.

The 58-year-old male rider was airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested near the scene -police allege he was driving the utility which was reported stolen from Pelaw Main overnight.

He's been taken to Maitland Hospital under police guard for injuries, as well as mandatory testing.

EARLIER:

Emergency services have been called to a serious crash at Maitland.

A car and scooter collided near the intersection of High Street and Regent Street just after 6.30.am on Tuesday.

NSW Ambulance says the 58-year-old male scooter has suffered significant injuries to his right leg.

He's been transported by road ambulance to Rutherford Airport where the Hunter's Westpac Rescue Helicopter will fly him to the John Hunter Hospital.

High Street is closed to traffic between Regent and Hannan Streets.

UPDATE! Car Into House At Sawyers Gully

A man has been taken to hospital after crashing his car into a house at Sawyers Gully early Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were called to Sawyers Gully Road just before 3.00am.

It's believed the Nissan X-trail was traveling west along Sawyers Gully Road near the intersection of Bathurst Street when the vehicle left the road and crashed through a fence before crashing into a room at the rear of the house.

The driver, a 41-year-old man, was trapped in the car for some time before being freed by members of the Cessnock Volunteer Rescue Squad.

He was treated at the scene by the critical care team attached to the Westpac Rescue helicopter before being taken by ambulance to the John Hunter Hospital with multiple injuries.

Police say the occupants of the home weren't injured; however their pet dog was struck by the vehicle, causing a broken leg.

Members of the VRA also installed structural supports to the damaged house which will remain in place until repairs can be carried out.

Pedestrian Hit By Motorcycle In Muswellbrook

Two people are recovering in hospital after a motorcycle struck a pedestrian in Muswellbrook. 

Emergency Services were called to Maitland Street at about 4:45pm yesterday (Monday the 23rd of October, 2023), following reports of a motorcycle incident. 

The 50-year-old female pedestrian was treated at the scene by NSW ambulance paramedics for head, abdomen, and hip injuries, before being airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition. 

The motorcycle rider was also treated at the scene, before being taken to the John Hunter via ambulance.

Two Men In John Hunter Hospital After Boat Capsize At Port Macquarie

Two men have been airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital with serious injuries after being run over by their own boat on the Mid North Coast.

The men in their 50's were thrown into the water when a rogue wave overturned their vessel at Point  Plomer north of Port Macquarie.

The pair were then run over by their unmanned vessel and sustained injuries from the propeller.

They managed to swim about 2 kilometres to shore and were treated by paramedics for serious leg and abdominal injuries.

They were stabilised and flown to Newcastle by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

Young Man Airlifted To The John Hunter Hospital After Crash at Wyee

A man has been airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital after he was involved in a crash near Wyee this morning. 

It's understood the man in his 20s was driving along Hue Hue Road near Wyee, south of Lake Macquarie, just before 7:00am today when his car left the road and hit a tree. 

He was trapped in the vehicle for some time before being released by emergency services. 

He was treated by paramedics at the scene for serious leg and internal injuries before being airlifted to Hospital.

Two Women Rescued From Cliff Face Near Catherine Hill Bay

Two women were airlifted to safety on Saturday afternoon, after becoming trapped in a sea cave at Ghosties Beach, just south of Catherine Hill Bay. 

It's believed the two women in their 20's, lost their footing on the sand while swimming, and were swept towards the cave. 

They were found by the Westpac Recue Helicopter just before 5:00pm clinging to the cliff face, and were winched to safety by the Critical Care Paramedic one at a time. 

They were both transported to Wyong hospital in a stable condition, suffering only cuts and bruises.

Boy rescued after Salamander Bay quarry fall

A boy has been rescued after falling in a quarry at Salamander Bay on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Diemars Road around 5pm.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter's Critical Care Team was lowered into the quarry to assist paramedics.

Paramedics stabilised the teenager, who had fallen three metres onto rocks and suffered pelvic and ankle fractures.

He was winch-extracted from the scene and airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

Woman Suffers Serious Injuries In Quad Bike Accident At Mount Thorley

A woman has suffered serious injuries in a quad bike accident in the Upper Hunter.

Emergency services and the Hunter's Westpac Rescue Helicopter were called to a Mount Thorley property just after midday on Sunday to reports a quad bike had rolled, throwing a woman into a dam.

The 62-year-old suffered serious leg fractures and was treated at the scene before being airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

Meanwhile, two Westpac helicopters were called out to Segenhoe east of Scone on Saturday night to a single vehicle crash.

A 28-year-old man was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital with burns while a 24-year-old man was flown to the John Hunter with pelvic and limb injuries.

Pilot Suffers Critical Injuries In Light Plane Crash At Luskintyre

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has launched an investigation into the crash of a light aircraft at Luskintyre near Maitland which left the pilot with serious burns and fractures.

A 48-year-old man from Hinton suffered burns to 80 percent of his body when the Mooney light aircraft crashed and exploded in flames at about 2.00pm on Monday.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Jake Broughton-Rouse says the man was out of the aircraft when paramedics arrived.

He was placed in an induced coma and flown to the burns unit at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital by the region's Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

Man Critically Injured When Car Plunges Off M1 Overpass Bridge At Cooranbong

A man is lucky to be alive after his car plunged off an overpass on the M1 at Cooranbong and crashed onto to the road below.

Emergency services were alerted to the crash at about 4.00pm on Tuesday, arriving to find the car had fallen several metres onto Newport Road.

The driver, believed to be a man in his 30's, was airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital by the region's Westpac Rescue Helicopter in a critical condition with multiple fractures and head and chest injuries.

Man treated by paramedics after yacht collision on Caves Beach rocks

A man's managed to escape with his life after his yacht lost power and collided with rocks at Caves Beach.

Around 7pm on Thursday night, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by New South Wales Ambulance after reports of a yacht in distress in waters offshore.

It was reported that the sole male occupant of the vessel broadcasted a mayday call over the marine radio and called triple zero stating that the vessel had lost power and was close to shore. 

Upon arrival of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, the vessel was located 250 metres offshore from the rocks at Caves Beach. 

Due to the conditions, the vessel impacted the rocks shortly after grounding the vessel.

The sole occupant was able to abandon the vessel onto shore where police and paramedics were waiting.

The male was assessed by paramedics for minor cuts and abrasions.

Man flown to Royal North Shore with spinal injuries after Salt Ash crash

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance early this morning to a report of a serious single vehicle motor vehicle accident at Salt Ash. 

NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived on scene and carried out initial treatment on a 21-year-old male driver before the arrival of the helicopter and Helicopter Critical Care Medical Team. 

The young man was released from the vehicle, suffering serious spinal injuries.

He was further stabilised, prior to being airlifted direct to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney in a serious condition, for further specialist medical treatment.

Cyclist Injured In Crash At Karuah

Port Stephens Police are investigating the circumstances leading up to a serious crash involving a cyclist at Karuah.

A man in his 50's was riding along the Pacific Highway near the North Arm Cove exit late on Wednesday  afternoon when he was struck by a car which was towing a caravan.

The Hunter's Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called in and a medical crew on board assisted Paramedics in treating the man at the scene for a head injury.

Police say no charges have been laid at this stage.

Swimmers Saved From Drowning At Central Coast Beach

Two young swimmers are recovering in the John Hunter Hospital after getting into trouble on the Central Coast.

The Hunter's Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to Budgewoi Beach just before 4.30pm on Thursday where two young men aged 18 and 21 were dragged from the water by Lifeguards and bystanders after getting caught in a rip.

Paramedics treated the pair, who'd swallowed a fair amount of sea water during their ordeal, before they were flown to Newcastle in a stable condition for observation with non-life threatening injuries.

BREAKING! Man In Serious Condition Following 4 Car Crash

The Crash Investigation Unit are working on the scene of a crash on the M1 at Cooranbong which involved 4 cars.

NSW Ambulance have confirmed a male in his 70s was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition with head and chest injuries.

Another male in his 50s was transported to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.

The M1 Motorway remains closed in both directions between Palmers Road and Mandalong Road with diversions in place.

Police say a crime scene has been established and will be examined to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It is expected there will be traffic diversions in place for some time while specialist police conduct the examination.

Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to contact them.

UPDATE Motorcyclist Killed In Crash At Bellbird

 A motorcyclist has died in an early morning crash at Bellbird.

Emergency services and the Hunter's Westpac Rescue Helicopter were called to the intersection of Wollombi Road and Kendall Street just after 4.00am on Wednesday to reports the male rider had crashed into a barrier.

Police found the man, believed to be in his early 30's, some distance away from the bike and commenced CPR, however he died at the scene before paramedics arrived.

Inspector Michael Gorman says a crime scene has been set up as investigations continue.

"Because of the time of morning and without any eyewitnesses, we are looking at speed, fatigue and the possibility of drugs and/or alcohol. We've also taken the motorcycle away for mechanical examination to see if there was mechanical failure on the bike, but unfortunately at this stage we are not able to rule anything in or out," he said.

The man is yet to be formally identified. 

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

BREAKING! Woman Rescued From Cliff At Susan Gilmore Beach

The Hunter's Westpac Rescue Helicopter has been called out to a cliff rescue at Susan Gilmore beach this morning.

A woman in her 30's was found on a rock ledge at about 4.30am on Monday.

She was winched to safety and taken to the Mater Hospital by road ambulance suffering exposure.

Newcastle Police are thanking members of the community who helped guide emergency services to the woman's location.

UPDATE: Three Injured as Truck and Motorhome Crash on Nelson Bay Road

A 90-year-old man has been airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition following this morning's truck and motorhome crash.

The man, who was driving the motorhome, had to be freed from the vehicle and is being flown to hospital suffering head and limb injuries.

An elderly female passenger travelling in the motorhome has been taken to the John Hunter via road ambulance.

The male truck driver was also transported to hospital by road.

EARLIER:

A man has been taken to hospital and two other patients are being assessed following a serious crash on Nelson Bay Rd at Bob's Farm.

Paramedics were called to the scene near Marsh Road just after 9 o'clock Monday morning, following reports a truck had collided with a motorhome.

The male truck driver was transported to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition suffering back pain.

Two other patients, believed to be an elderly man and woman travelling in the motorhome, are being assessed at the scene after paramedics worked to free the male driver from the vehicle.

The Westpac Rescue helicopter has been called to the scene.
