School Climate protest in response to little COP26 Momentum

 BY CONNOR MARSELOS

Coinciding with the final day of the COP26 climate conference, School Strike for Climate will be out to highlight their disapproval of any meaningful resolution and the Federal Government's slow action on the climate.

The protest is going to be held at the Carrington Coal terminal at five PM this afternoon.

Abigail Goodsir of School Strike for Climate says it was very disheartening to hear the proposed policies outlined by Prime Minister Scott Morrison at COP26 and later announcements in the lead-up to the federal election next year.

"To change the goal of net carbon to 2030 instead of 2050 because 2050 is way too late" Abigail said, when asked what action should be taken by the government.

The main message that the protest wants to send this afternoon is that the youth of Australia are angry and fighting for a safe and sustainable future.

While not wanting to see coal-miners lose their jobs as a result of Net-Zero by 2030, Abigail is hopeful that the miners could be upskilled and transition to the renewable energy sector, creating sustainable jobs.
