Malabar Mine Fined Over Water Pollution

BY IAN CROUCH

A Hunter Valley coal mine has been fined by the Environment Protection Authority after mine water was allegedly discharged into Saltwater Creek.

6 megalitres of water containing high levels of salt and sulphate overflowed from a dam during transfer at the Malabar Coal Mine.

Operator Maxwell Ventures has been fined $15,000 dollars and received an official caution for polluting the creek.

The company has made changes to procedures to ensure the incident doesn't happen again.
