The University of Newcastle's former vice-chancellor Caroline McMillen has been named to sit on the board for Hunter-based Compass Housing Services.
The appointee finished up at the University last year, and has been chosen to fill the vacancy as the newest board member.
Professor McMillen brings a wealth of international experience and contacts to the housing board, which is intending to use her extensive CV to grow the not-for-profit service.
She's joined the not-for-profit housing service which works to provide housing in more than 4-thousand properties in the Hunter.
General Manager, Greg Budworth, says, given her skills and experience, the appointment was the obvious choice.
"Her many contacts throughout the Asia-pacific region and also her being the leader that assisted the University become an international organisation, and that's the path Compass is on as well...
"For all those things, Caroline is a perfect fit and we're honoured to have her on board," he said.
The housing provider is planning to expand its operations and will use McMillen's background to achieve this.
Greg Budworth says while the new appointment will help with this expansion, the group will always be Hunter-based.
"We're born here, bred here, and we want to be significant here and continue to be significant here," he said.
"We're progressing beyond these regional borders into other states and other countries. It began here and the way we do things has all been born from here so the Hunter has a strong ownership."
Professor McMillen says she wants to be a part of the work of the organisation.
"I'm looking forward to working with my fellow directors and rest of the team as Compass pursues its vision for a world in which all people have safe and adequate housing and are engaged in sustainable communities."
Professor McMillen has become the latest appointment to the board of Compass Housing Services, a Hunter-based provider of housing. |
